September 28, 2003 The GTO is moving along. I have found someone to do the final bodywork. This weekend consisted of filling the major dings in the roofline and tunnel back. It looks like a ton of filler, but actually it's only 1/8" at the thickest point. The plan is to make the car nearly flawless...no matter how much block sanding. These may be famous last words. I completed the POR-15 finish on the trunk lid and installed it. It fit amazingly well. We then hammered and pulled some of the major quarter panel damage out. Then I wire-welded the rear panel and internal bracing. The trunk still needs some final tweaking, but it's all in place. On the mechanical end, I rebuilt all of the door hinges with new pins and bushings. Then installed the driver side door since it's critical to get the body lines straight on the quarter panel. The fender wells took a considerable amount of time to finish. I installed all new splash shields and temporarily mounted them to the firewall. The parking brake is now fully functional and the hydraulic brake system is nearly complete. The front lines are complete. Quite a bit of fabricating was involved to integrate the proportioning valve into the system, but the braking system will be fully adjustable. Brakes are serious biz...only the best pieces are here. All in all, the sheet metal is nearly assembled. I can see an end in sight. ![]() |
June 11, 2003 I was able to lay out some more floor panel work and design a fuel system out of 3/8" copper. I modified the gas tank pickup with a 3/8" line and a return... All in all, kinda mundane work and I'm not going to show a pic until I complete the entire system. But, I am showing a picture of the GTO underside...one day it will be ready to bolt to the frame...maybe before summer is out???? | ||||||||||||||||
